The majority of my designs incorporate a cut granite stone for the step systems, instead of natural stone. Like most people, I love the look of natural stones aligned and installed in such a way that they can be used as steps from one level to another.

However, natural steps have many limitations, such as:

• Difficult to shovel
• Unequal rise/run characteristics making it challenging and potentially
• dangerous for elderly and children
• Typically more expensive
• Labor intensive installation process

I always recommend thinking about how, when, and more importantly who will be using the steps before deciding upon a material.
